What I Thought While on the Pot: Playstation 3

Playstation 3

I wasn't going to say anything for awhile, but I can't hold my tongue anymore. The Playstation 3 sucks. Let's examine why because I know you're so very interested. Sony apparently has on F'ing clue what the consumer is after. Why do I say this? Simply enough, Blu-Ray. When I buy a video game system, I'm concerned with how the games look and how much fun they are. I don't care if the system incorporates some brand new technology that nobody can afford that plays movie disks that cost almost as much as games for the system. Stand alone Blu-Ray players out there right now cost something like 800 bux or more. So yeah, if you WANT a Blu-Ray player, then the PS3 is a pretty good deal at 650 bux. Especially if you're in the market for a new video game console AND a Blu-Ray player, well hell there you go. But just how many people ARE exactly in that market. Very few. Of course alot of PS3s have sold and will continue to sell simply because people think it's cool to have the latest gaming console. Personally, I find the Wii to be a much more interesting and better system and it's only 250 bux. It doesn't play Blu-Ray and I don't care because I'll probably never own a Blu-Ray player of any kind. With the thought that the Nintendo Wii is a superior system and sells for 250 bux, that leads me to wonder just how much the PS3 would be sold for if it didn't incorporate Blu-Ray technology. I mean it's already less than all other stand alone BR (Blu-Ray from now on will be referred to as BR) players. So take the BR capability away, and maybe it would only be 250 bux. Hell I'd pay 250 bux for a PS3 just to have one just in case the PS3 ever decides to come out with a game that I would consider buying (which hasn't happened yet). I don't buy a TON of video games anyway. I bought an XBOX 360 last May and I still only own a few games for it. Burnout Revenge, PREY, PGR3, Dead Rising, NFS: Most Wanted, Rockstar Table Tennis (hey, it's a ton of fun!), and Test Drive Unlimited. I have tried a few other games for it that I ended up taking back such as Call of Duty2 which I play on the PC and find it a much better game on the PC version. I'd probably buy COD 3 if I had the extra money laying around the house. I'm still not really a big fan of FPS games on the console. Halo 2 on the original XBOX was a great game and I did spend several hours playing it, but it pissed me off more than I enjoyed it playing online.
Here's what they SHOULD have done:
Have a PS3 WITHOUT BR technology and sell it for 299 with the 60gb HD.
Have a PS3 WITH BR technology and 60GB HD and sell it for whatever they want.
Hell, PS3 might even be leading the market right now if they had done what I said.
I'm all about gaming. Hell, I spent over 700 bux just on my video cards for my computer in the past year and I've been eye balling the new 8800GTX card which sells for 550 bux right now (just for one!). Back in the day, I refused to ever pay more than 200 bux for any one component of my computer. But these days, to really compete online with the latest and greatest games, you have to spend money to keep up. 200 bux for a video card just isn't going to cut it most of the time.
In my opinion, if you are looking for a video game console, and you don't have an XBOX 360 already, go get one. If you have one already, get a Wii. Don't waste money on something you don't want by getting a BR PS3 player.
